About Bike Guy
Bill Humphreys-Bio
Bike Guy, Bill Humphreys is the president of Bike Guy LLC a sports marketing/event management and consulting company specializing in all aspects of Cycling. Bill has over 30 years of successful, sales, marketing, event and team management in this arena.
Tabbed “The Bike Guy” while competing in his first stage (multi-day) race, The Tour de L’ Est. in Quebec, Canada, Bill went on to pioneer the modern day team position of “domestique” for the Raleigh CRCofA and US National Road Teams.
For Bill to be competitive in international races such as the Tour of Ireland, the Worlds Championships, the Tour of Newfoundland, and the Tour of the Winelands, required that he gain first hand knowledge of nutrition.
As a USA National Team road coach and soigneur Bill would take teams to Europe and Latin America for stage races in which US riders had a history of getting sick and not finishing. He knew enough in the late 70’s about herbs, vitamins, meditation, and massage to ensure that his riders would finish as a complete team.
During this time, Bill developed contacts at the highest levels of international cycling and in the process became a consultant for several nutrition companies regarding brand recognition and team contracts. Accelerade, Vital Nutrients, and Acid Zapper are a few of the products that have all made inroads into the cycling and triathlon markets with Bike Guy’s input.
As a published author Bill has contributed monthly columns and reports for cycling magazines, daily newspapers and websites. A recent issue of Road Bike Action Magazine features one of his stories. He does a monthly blog for the same publication and manages his own webpage www.bikeguy.biz
Bill is a keynote speaker, at annual banquets, and weekly lunches for a variety of non-profit and civic organizations on a yearly basis.
His background in event management includes working with over 100 sponsors at the local to international levels in the process of developing advertising and public relations strategies around his cycling races, rides, festivals and teams.
Still an active rider and coach, Bill recently completed another successful "Raleigh Boys Reunion"while his current projects include the third annual Whaling City Cyclone criterium scheduled for June 2010. Bill, his wife Sara and son Ian live on Rogers Lake in Old Lyme, CT.
